Kep's Bio
Kep is a truly amazing dog and is the reason that we have gone all in on the Braque Francais breed. His best quality is that he truly has an “off switch”, a quality he displayed even as a puppy. He learns very easily with positive reinforcement, especially if there are treats involved. He loves people and is always looking for the next person to scratch his ear or cuddle up next to.
In his NAVHDA Natural Ability Test he scored a 108 prize 2, which is an unusual score. He received perfect scores in every area except for tracking because I made the mistake of letting him watch the 2 dogs in front of him. When I turned him loose, he ran down the trail and tracked the last two dogs birds before coming back and tracking his own. He has the skills, just got a little
He is quick to learn and will seek out “birdy” types of cover even when hunting a new species. When we are hunting prairie grouse in the wide open he will range out to 200+ yards, covering lots of ground and making it look easy. When hunting pheasants or quail in thicker cover, he will tighten up his range and likes to work 25-100 yards out.
He is a natural retriever and is always carrying things around in his mouth.h, Hhis favorites areis stuffed animals and towels. He also loves water and enjoys swimming and retrieving while at the lake.
As great as he is in the field, in the house is where he really shines. He is very affectionate and loves nothing more than the opportunity to cuddle up next to you., Iif you sit on the floor, you better be ready for a dog to be laying next to you. Very often he will follow you from room to room and just lay on the floor somewhere he can keep an eye on you. When it comes to kids, he is very patient and just soaks up the attention. Our kids love to cuddle with him and he can often be found laying on the couch snuggling up and sharing a blanket with them
